Music for Wedding Videos.

How many times have you watched wedding video highlights of friends, relatives or when you’re researching for videographers in Hong Kong and the sound of Jason Mraz or Bruno Mars’ voice runs through your head and all you can say is ‘not again!’. Wedding videos are mushy already (and sometimes cheesy but of course in a good way); add to that a cliché song and you’ve got your guests either roll their eyes or gag. Let your videographer know what your favourite songs are and the type of music you listen to so they can suggest a suitable song for you. Inject your personality into the video so friends and family who could not attend your ceremony can feel the emotions that filled the day whilst also being able to differentiate between yours and the many others they watch at wedding banquets. And if ‘I’m Yours’ or ‘Just the Way You Are’ are the only two songs that you like, then honey, I can’t help you.

For alternative music choices, I’ve found The Music Bed site to be particularly helpful. You can filter songs by instrument, genre and even mood.

One Stop Shop: Pop Concepts Hong Kong.

Wedding planning is stressful. I’m not going to lie. As a bride, you will probably go through at least one meltdown and as a groom, you will most likely be the one to bear the brunt of it. Don’t worry, you’ll ride through it and your wedding will be (dare I say without sounding cheesy), a magical day. If you’re the type who prefers to shop at one place then the girls at Pop Concepts Hong Kong may become your new best friends. Their services include photobooth hire, kua (Chinese wedding dress) rental, wedding dress design, cake pops for your dessert bar, scent machine rental for your wedding venue and Hong Kong’s first flipbook. On top of that, they also stock their own in-house lingerie collection and can help you with your after-party needs. That’s at least 5 items crossed off your wedding check-list!

How flipbook works.
Similar to the photo booth concept, guests will stand in front of a camera but instead of photos being taken, a short video clip will be filmed and the stills will be transformed into a flipbook. Bringing your wedding to life, it’s fun for the guests and they get a unique and memorable keepsake. It’s the first in Hong Kong so surprise your guests! For a short video on how it works, click here.

What about scent rental?
That’s another first. Choose from a range of scents that you, as a couple like (they’ve even got the A&F scent) and they’ll pop that into a machine to disperse the fragrance into the room where your wedding is being held. As a tip, go for scents that are lighter. The last thing you want is for your guests to be sneezing away.

Les Miserables Wedding Surprise.

It’s the world’s most popular and longest running musical and the anticipation for the Les Miserables movie is at an all time high. So how does all of this relate to the wedding world? A couple in Copenhagen had a surprise of their lives when a group of their friends suddenly got up to sing ‘One Day More’. To guests at Hong Kong weddings, be creative with your gifts. It’s the priceless gifts that are the most memorable.

Embrace Movember: Have a Moustache-y Wedding.

There’s only one month in the whole year that men can get away with growing a moustache without looking like a bit of a creep, all for a good cause. Embrace this Movember by incorporating moustache elements into your wedding, be it with the invitations or even letting your man wear a moustache…cufflink that is. Even if your wedding isn’t during the month of November, there’s no stopping you from having some fun with the facial hair trend. Just look at the number of moustache props used in wedding photos and you’ll see it’s never to late to jump on the stache wagon.

p.s. Keep a lookout for free moustache printables throughout the rest of the month!

Crazy for You.

Who doesn’t like a bit of Madonna, especially if you’re an 80′s junkie? Classic and catchy, here’s a tune for your first dance that’s not overly cheesy or mind-numbingly boring. Who’s crazy for who?

First Dance: Let’s Stay Together.

Having difficulties coming up with a first dance song that’s meaningful and not overly soppy? Bruno Mars and Jason Mraz are overly played at weddings and that Mariah Carey tune you’ve been singing in the shower all those years is best left at home. Today we’ve got Al Green’s Let’s Stay Together. Love each other whether times are good or bad, happy or sad.

I’m, I’m so in love with you
Whatever you want to do
Is alright with me
‘Cause you make me feel, so brand new
And I want to spend my life with you

Me sayin’ since, baby, since we’ve been together
Ooo, loving you forever
Is what I need
Let me, be the one you come running to
I’ll never be untrue
Ooo baby

Let’s, let’s stay together
Loving you whether, whether
Times are good or bad, happy or sad

Oooo oooo ooo ooo, yeah
Whether times are good or bad, happy or sad

Why somebody, why people break up
Oh, and turn around and make up
I just can’t seeeeeeeee
You’d never do that to me
(Would you baby)
‘Cause being around you is all I see
It’s why I want us to

Let’s, let’s stay together
Loving you whether, whether
Times are good or bad, happy or sad

Let’s, let’s stay together
Loving you whether, whether

The Big Ceremony Exit.

The wedding ceremony exit. The time when you have officially become husband and wife, Mr. & Mrs., for better or worse. Everyone’s happy and it’s time for the celebrations to begin so start it off with a bang. Leave props for your guests on their chair or upon entering the ceremony grounds so that they can bless you when you exit as newlyweds. Traditionally, confetti was used but times have changed and we are seeing more alternative exits. Sparklers and glittery pom poms for a glam do, balloons and ribbon wands for the cute exit, bubbles for the child-at-heart and paper planes for the globe-trotters. Whatever you decide on, you’re sure to enjoy every moment of it.

Time of My Life.

This is an overly played first dance song yet can never get sick of it. Sometimes, classics is the only way to go. It’s the time of your life. Start dancing.

Puzzle Your Guests.

Happy Friday! Hopefully the miserable weather hasn’t dampened your Bridelicious spirits. Here’s yet another alternative guestbook idea that’ll leave your guests rather puzzled. Turn your favourite photo (it could be from your engagement shoot, your first photo together, your favourite trip) into a puzzle, get your guests to write a wish for you and let them be entertained. You can frame it after your wedding day and put it up as a wall art or keep it in a box and take it out on your wedding anniversary as your yearly ritual to put together the pieces of love.

Where to buy?
Double Trouble via Etsy: prices depend on the number of pieces so the more guests you have, the more it’s going to cost you. The wooden pieces are individually hand cut so don’t be shocked by the slightly higher prices. It’s worth it.
