Photo Backdrop: Beatlesmania.

Did you grow up with your parents blasting Ticket to Ride in the car or belting out Hey Jude and do you secretly like the Beatles’ tunes? If you want to recreate your childhood memories, do more than just play a few of their songs (my Dad’s a massive fan and it was the Beatles that got him grooving). How fun would it be to have Abbey Road as your photo backdrop? It’ll revive the Beatlesmania.

Back to Nature: Rustic Forest Wedding.

Today’s post is dedicated to two very special friends who are tying the knot this summer in Whistler (I can hear you gasp!) and are looking to have one cozy, rustic, forest style bash. Couples getting hitched in HK, don’t despair. You can still bring the outdoors in, but that doesn’t give you the right to set up an enchanted forest in a ballroom (that’s just tacky). Incorporate nature into your table decor or the cake. As with any wedding, it’s about who you celebrate it with rather than how you do it. Focus on what’s important to you because this is your day. You guys rock!

It’s outdoors. It’s natural. Who won’t want to celebrate?

You’ve got the beauty of nature to help you.

The Polka Dot Fever.

Think 50′s, Carolina Herrera dresses back in the late 80′s early 90′s, Cath Kidston and more recently Zooey Deschanel in New Girl (quote: “I rock a lot of polka dots.”) whilst humming to Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini and you’ve got one quirky and playful wedding. Your hubby will probably scream “NO!” at your suggestion but assure him that you’ll be incorporating the print sparingly and promise him you won’t go overboard (No polka dot table cloths unless you want your guests to leave early by making them dizzy). Play with circular shapes, be it using flowers, balloons or lanterns to create your spin on the print. Go with strong colours and part with the baby pinks and purples. No one wants to attend a wedding that looks like a kid’s party.  Polka dots can be sophisticated too.

Dots are the new hearts.

Fun Photo Backdrops.

It’s the battle of the ugly photo backdrops for those obligatory group shots. Layers of cloth draped over a backboard with the newlyweds’ name pinned in the centre so that all guests can see. Why? Shouldn’t every attending guest know an easy fact such as the couple’s names? Answer: HK weddings are a big affair and usually guests are invited to a sister-in-law’s brother’s daughter’s wedding (go figure) and when they look back at the photos with the happy couple, they might well have forgotten who they were if it wasn’t for their ginormous names scrawled across the back. I will deal with guest list another time but today, it’s about inspiring all HK brides and grooms to think out of the box and ditch that boring, drab-looking photo backdrop and giving your photos a new life. Yes it’s difficult when space is an issue. If you’re lucky enough to have an outdoor wedding, please make use of your natural surroundings. If not, be inspired and think fun. Some are so easy, you can even DIY, save some dough and double it up as the increasingly popular photo booth (but bigger). Ever thought of using shower curtains?
