Real Weddings: Jasmine & Alan (Bali)

I’m so giddy over this destination wedding at The Khayangan Estate in Bali. Last week, I gave you a glimpse into Jas & Alan’s big day with their DIY invitations, which was produced at low costs and with lots of creativity, so it’ll come as no surprise that their wedding had a great deal of personal touches. With such busy jobs and the fact that much of the planning had to be done remotely from Hong Kong, Jas & Alan managed to pull off a beautiful day that showed us what love can do. Their love has been brewing since 2001 and there’s no better way to witness this than through the eyes of KC Chan, whose natural style of photography makes me you feel as though you’re sharing the special day with the couple.

One special mention was the catering company, M&M, who Jas spoke highly of, “They allowed us to let each of our guests choose their own appetizer, first and second course out of a couple of choices in advance AND they provided the menu tailored for each guest according to their choices and had their name on it!! They delivered everything perfectly on the day!!”

Have I Got TOMS For You.

Last week, we introduced the wellies as alternative wedding shoes for rainy weather but how about comfortable shoes for sunny days? TOMS, the uber socially responsible shoes brand have come up with a wedding collection that’ll make you reconsider the need to wear heels. Their glittery styles come in various colours or if you’re feeling artsy, you can even customise your own pair of TOMS, getting the white ones as your blank canvas. It’s not only for the ladies; men are included too. Besides the comfort factor, you’ll also be contributing to the greater good, that is, helping the children in need. Every pair you buy, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in one of the 40 countries they support. Go on, you have a big heart. Get yourselves and the bridal party decked out in these funky shoes.

Ring-a-licious.

Olympic day is finally here and I can’t wait to start cheering for Team GB and Team HK. In celebration of this, it’s only fitting to take inspiration from the Olympic symbol (the five rings) and have ourselves a mini ring party. Wedding ring shots no longer need to be stale and boring. Get your photographer to use the surroundings or any object to create a unique photo that you can keep forever. Got some lemons anyone?

Real Weddings: Jasmine & Alan (DIY Invitation)

By now, you’ll probably know I’m in love with all things DIY. It demonstrates one’s creativity and most important of all, their personality. When I found out that Jasmine & Alan’s wedding invitation was designed by the couple themselves, I knew I had to feature their creation. Both in the professional sphere, let’s just say their daily work involves numbers and documents and as you can tell, a world away from the arts. Together with two bridesmaids and an iPad in hand, this invitation is truly a reflection of “great teamwork”.

The Design:

“I first drew/wrote the draft and then we tried to look for a couple of printers to estimate costs. So glad we found a cheap local one (run by a couple of warm-hearted middle-aged women!) as we wanted to keep it under HK$15 per set.”

“With the printed cards in single colour, I got two talented bridesmaids, Joanne and Viv, to join me to paint all of them.”

“At last, Alan and I finished with our fingerprints and two smiley faces at the back to add a personal touch on a rather commoditised wedding accessory these days.”

”You can probably tell how excited I am with the end product!”

Vintage Chic: Virgos Lounge

Many of you brides will probably be scouting around not only for that perfect wedding dress but also for a second gown to change into (and if you’re thinking of changing multiple times on your wedding day, please don’t. Spare yourself the time and money and just enjoy what the day has in store for you.). For any of you vintage chicks or not, or if you simply want to wear some eye-catching colours, check out Virgos Lounge. This London based boutique ships internationally for a mere   £10 (that’s about HK$120) and you can be sure no other bride will be wearing the same outfit as you. Talk about being unique.

Keep Calm and Wear Wellies.

If you’ve had trouble sleeping all night due to the bashing typhoon winds on your windows, you’re not the only one. The last 24 hours have been mighty stormy and if you’re thinking ‘what if’ it rained cats and dogs on your big day, don’t let the rain spoil such a momentous event. Stop panicking and have fun with it. Mother nature can make you more creative. Prepare wellies for yourselves and the bridal party for those outdoor shots so even when it’s wet, you’ll be protected. They now come in all colours, patterns and prints so embrace the rain and wellie on.

Flowers

Baby’s Breath.

The sweet scent of baby’s breath. Not the smell of a human being but of the fresh and innocent flowers that look like a million stars floating in the air. Long used as a filler for more dominant flowers, baby’s breath aka gypsophilia, can and should be used on its own. If you like the idea of incorporating lots of fresh neutral flowers in your wedding decor but you’re put off by the high costs, baby’s breath will save you quite a big of moolah so that you can spend on more important items. Best of all, you can find them at any florist or even at your local Park ‘n Shop. It’s that easy.

Photo Checklist for Your Perfect Moments.

You trust your photographer but s/he isn’t Superman and can’t read your mind. To ensure they don’t miss out any of your most important moments or details, send them a checklist of what they must take to prevent any arguments post-wedding. Here’s the list.

Photoshop: From Ordinary to Fabulous.

Happy Weekend everyone! It’s an incredibly hazy and hot day, so what better way to spend it than to stay put at home to sort out your photo archive. Your friends and family may have forwarded their snaps of you on your big day and since they may not all be professional photographers, their photos may appear a tad stale. Fret not because we all know the powers of photoshop. Just add a little bit of light and colour here and there, and you can transform one ordinary looking photo into a slightly more artsy form. I came across this easy tutorial from Alex Beadon Photography who shows us in a step-by-step video how it’s all done. I’m going to try it for myself and so should you!
